UK Government response to refugee crisis shameful
Responding to the news that the latest refugee boat tragedy in the Mediterranean has claimed 500 lives, Ross Greer, Europe spokesperson for the Scottish Greens and MSP candidate for the West of Scotland, said:
"The sight of desperate refugees taking a dangerous and too often deadly journey across the Mediterranean is becoming depressingly familiar. As the death toll in this latest boat tragedy rises to 500, the need for safe routes and a systematic programme of resettlement in Europe becomes all the more pressing.
"The response of the UK Government has been deeply shameful. The Scottish Greens call on the UK government to take its fair share of refugees and to halt arms sales and economic and political support for regimes across the world.”
