Get the job done on GRR Scottish Greens rally MSPs

Today, our Parliament has the opportunity to pass GRR and, in doing so, we can take a big step towards a fairer, more inclusive and more welcoming Scotland.

MSPS are being urged to ‘finish the job' on improving trans rights in Scotland.

The rallying call comes from the Scottish Greens who say the Tories should be “ashamed” over efforts to try and wreck the bill.

The Scottish Greens equalities spokesperson, Maggie Chapman MSP, said:

"Our trans siblings have waited long enough. This afternoon we can finally finish the job on Gender Recognition Reform.

"Today, our Parliament has the opportunity to pass GRR and, in doing so, we can take a big step towards a fairer, more inclusive and more welcoming Scotland.

"The Tories should be ashamed of the appalling and transparent tactics they have used to block, obstruct and delay this Bill.

"They have tried every trick in the book and undermined our Parliament with anti-democratic wrecking tactics while delivering one final insult to the trans community.

"Their attempts to curtail the legislation have gone alongside some of the most disgraceful dog whistles and smears similar to those we saw during both the debates to repeal Section 28 and legislate for Equal Marriage.

“But the truth is that, no matter how low they choose to sink, not even the Tories or the cynical campaign of disinformation they have spread can stop this legislation.”
