Bombing Yemen isn't the solution

We need de-escalation in the red sea, not more bombing.

Following the UK Govermnet's strikes in Yemen, Scottish Greens external affairs spokesperson Ross Greer MSP said:

“The solution to Israel’s genocidal bombing campaign in Gaza isn’t the UK and US killing more people somewhere else, it's an immediate and lasting ceasefire.

“Yemen has suffered horrendously over the last decade, with civil war and a brutal Saudi-led bombing campaign and blockade which the UK has armed, trained and supported. That caused one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, inflicting famine and cholera outbreaks and resulting in the deaths and killing of tens of thousands of innocent people.

“Now, thanks to Westminster’s total subservience to America, even more Yemeni blood will be on our hands.

“The risk of further escalation is clear, which is why the lack of any vote in the House of Commons before the bombing began is so outrageous. The Houthis have already warned they will “punish” those behind the strikes. We now face the prospect of exactly the kind of regional proxy war with Iran that many have warned against, the consequences of which are impossible to say with any certainty.”
